The mitre is the Phrygian crown of the Archigallae and the gaudy robes, sometimes bejeweled, a steal from the ancient practice of the Gallae (allowing for 1700 years of evolution) and ironically still praying to the Goddess (the Madonna having a direct connection to the Goddess Cybele). What is most amusing, and entirely obvious when explained, is that the crown was a representation of the lingam (the head of the penis) with the mouth included. It was a symbol stolen and adopted from the practices of the ancient gallae without a complete understanding of what it was they were stealing. It is amusing to note that, through the centuries, this symbol is a private joke of those who know where it originated from.
