"Egyptian Power Stamps"
November 29, 2003

This is an amusing thing I found at the bookstore today: twelve rubber stamps which attach to the bottom of a cat-aspected Bast statue of various Egyptian dieties. The designer didn't include Set, but the rendition of Anubis (seen at far left) could serve. The ears are only slightly less squared off and the snout only slightly thicker. On the other hand, Ma'at and Thoth are quite recognizable:

Here are two of the rubber stamps themselves:

It is interesting what the author of the little booklet that accompanies these stamps says of the rather Set-like Anubis:

ANUBIS FOR TODAY

Life is about growth: anything else is stagnation and a living death. To grow means facing the unknown - often in little steps, but forward steps nonetheless. The modern counterpart to Anubis' personality is one that dares to walk the unknown paths where the faint-hearted fear to tread.

Later, he says:

As Anubis in his role as judge, Anubis personalities express keen judgement and a willingness to act upon it. It is not judgement for the purpose of condemnation, but rather for bringing all of life into right-relationship, as in the concept of Ma'at. Applied to personal realms, it allows these personalities to determine what is right for themselves, rather than bowing to outside pressures and values. They seek new ways to grow and develop as people, even at the risk of appearing foolish to their contemporaries.

I think maybe I do that a little!

Grinning widely, I sign off for now.
