Focusing The Mind
July 29, 2004

I wake with one nervous thought, then breathe deep and dismiss it. From Don Webb's Seven Faces of Darkness, there is this excerpt from the 'Frame rites':

"...touch your Head.
'My thoughts are made strong by my will.'
Then touch your Heart.
'My feelings are made strong by my will.'
The pass your hand over the four bricks.
'My world is made strong by my will.'"

For the 'four bricks', I'm sure anything that symbolizes ones world will do. It is a way of focusing our thoughts. For where our thoughts go, our emotions will follow.

Sometimes I combine this with elements of my own meditation:

"My thoughts are made strong by my will."
     Breathe deeply.
          "Return to the Center".

"My feelings are made strong by my will."
     Breathe deeply.
          "Return to the Center".

"My world is made strong by my will."
     Breathe deeply.
          "Return to the Center".

By "Return to the Center", I mean turn the focus inward towards one's Essential Self, and let drop the things that would distract us. Returning to the Center, I gather strength.
