Stela of Amaini
May 31, 2005

While priviledged to be in New York City this past week, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and thoroughly examined their Egyptian collection for SET sightings. I have since learned the Brooklyn Museum has more SET sightings, for it concentrates heavily on the 19th dynasty. I wasn't able to make it there, but I did encounter one Set sighting among the lovely items at the Met Museum:

Stela of Amaini

My own camera could not capture such fine detail, but with kind permission, this is the image from Setsightings.

If you look just below the two eyes, you'll see the hieroglyph which represents SET:

Again, this is the image from Setsightings.

(The numbers refer to the lines of hieroglyphs.)

1.)Adoring Re-Harakhti and Thoth, the good one of the night:
Hail Atum, Khepri, who evolved on his own!
You became high, at the Height (of the primeval hill),
You swelled forth, as the Pyramidion,
from the eastern horizon-zone of the sky,
3.)As you set in the western horizon-zone of the sky,
those who are in the night and day boats (of the sun) (give you praise)-
the western ba's, the eastern ba's,
4.)As Re-Harakhti sets from life, shrine...
may his rays be on the breast of the priest Amaini and his wife, Inet-Hapi
5.)May shut and Tefnut be content,
May Geb and Nut be content,
May Osirus and Isis be content.
May Horus be content with his Eye,
6.) May SET be content with his testicles.
May Re-Harakhti be content
7.) with vindication, while his enemy is felled for him
8.)daily.

The standing figures are identified as priest Amaini, and his wife, the house mistress Inet-Hopi. (The translation is made possible by Anne and David Mininberg MMA - 1995

Thoth is understood to be the one that healed both SET and Horus after their contendings, enabling them both to be 'content'. Re-Harakhti's enemy is the APEP snake, whom SET slays daily to keep him safe as he travels the solar barque. SET is regarded as the only one strong enough to get the job done.

The webauthors of Setsightings have been to New York City, and have amassed a lovely collection of NYC Setsightings .
