Hathor

Head of a Cow Goddess
Dynasty 18, c, 1417 - 1379 B.C.

Which photo is more true? The first one I took in 2005 or the second in 2008? The first one is rather dark. Part of that was due to the smaller lens of the old camera, and part of it is I think the museum is more brightly light in 2008. Each photo gives an idea to what the piece looks like, so I keep both.

(from info card):
"The statue of which this head was once a part may have represented the goddess Hathor and it was probably commissioned by Amenhotep III. The artist has produced a work that symbolizes both the divine power and the beneficient qualities of this goddesss by stylizing the natural forms of the bovine head. The glossy finish of the statue surface adds warmth to a piece that is mastery in its technical execution."
