message: Hi, I first heard of Laura years ago, when she was going by the name Darlene. However, until I read her autobiography I hadn't known how amazing her life has been. It's hard to believe one person could pack so much into living. As a transsexual woman who has been struggling with her own issues I am grateful to learn that one can achieve happiness wihtout being cut from a common clay. I am a solo practioner of Wicca visiting a friend, who showed me the Metro'on website. WOW! I just had to drop you a line. Sorry for the anonymity, but I am still new and a bit shy. Maybe I can get my own computer soon and write you E-mail. Jenny

I love to be a man and I love to be a woman; society makes me hide who I am and only show who they want me to be. Thanks for sharing your works with us and allowing us to enter your lifes. I look forward to my next visit. Sincerely, Diane.

message: I wrote once before and was sorry this time not to find what I wrote included in your archived messages.
I've felt the call of the Goddess for many years. But I have never felt that I was female or that I wished to become female. My spiritual understanding of what the Goddess allows me to offer Her is the thing I hold most dear; the delightful pleasures of male sexuality. She does not REQUIRE me to give her this gift. Rather she would accept it if willingly given. And I must offer myself to the Goddess by the act of self-emasculation. The sacrifice is not something that can take place in a doctor's office! By that beautiful, sacred act, I seal myself to her forever in perfect chastity. By my own irrevocable sacrifice I cast away the capacity for unfaithfulness.
Attis bled to death as a result of his submission. If that is the result of properly obeying the call of the Goddess, then so be it! And if death does not result from the realization of the supreme act of worship, then the permanent loss of sexual arousal is a sweet price to pay to please Her whom we love.

Dear Friend, I recall your last entry and remember who you are ... we have been deeply concerned for you. You have the werewithal to find a surgeon and do what you suggest in relative safety. Please, do not do it yourself. Also, remember, the Goddess and Gods, all of them, are myths and as such are pleasureable to contemplate ... please consider what you are doing very carefully. Write us and let's talk more before you take action ... please. We do care about you!

Have you seen our recent encyclopedic dictionary of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender lore? It called Cassell's Encyclopedia of Queer Myth, Symbol and Spirit (London: Cassell, 1997) now in paperback and cheaper! Thanks again, Davide
Blossom of Bone is one of the finest books ever written on the subject of gender variance. We will be looking forward to Cassell's Encylopedia of Queer Myth, Symbol and Spirit ... and yes, in paperback is good.

message: Found this fascinating! I have felt some urges and longings in this direction, but feel you could help to shape and form my urges into something useful and productive. I am a single white hetero male who wishes to explore and revel in the feminine in me! I live in NYC, and am seeking a kindred female soul here to help in my evolution and progress toward the femme! Hope to hear from you!
Your question is an important one. Many people are gender variant in one form or another. Where can they find someone to love them? The SCA, Society for Creative Anacrhonisms, is an organizatiion of people who love role playing, new age religions tend to view gender variants as two spirits and a bit magical, and then there are high IQ groups and correspondence clubs. If none of those are of interest ... join any group that does interest you. Then, always, always, always be up front with the people you meet and tell them of your interest. Those who aren't interested will go away and those who are interested will stay. Separates those that aren't suited from the start! And don't forget ... some naturally born males make really special, understanding women. They may not be as pretty, but they make up for it by heart.

message: Dear Laura, Joan, and Julia
Sorry, I have no courage to show my e-mail address. Your web-site is beautiful, in both pictures and delicate musics and its theme. I feel very confused in gender in a gender-divided world. There is simply a question, which I have, "Why are there men and women, two sexes on the Earth." Platoon, an ancient Greek philosopher wrote the myth of Hermaphrodiitee, as he wrote, and as Diotima said in the "Symposion", I think human beings are hermaphrodite beings in their heart nature. I want to feel I am both male and female, that is, hermaphrodite. By the way, you have knowledges of the ancient world, Rome and Greek, and their cultures and languages, Then, do you think about Sapho of Lesbos? Sapho was a love teacher and holy leader of young girls in the island Lesbos, and she was a sacred female too. Her poems are beautiful, I think, yet I have not enough knowledges of the old Greek (both Athican and Ionian). so I cannnot read her poems sufficiently in the Ancient Greek text. And I have interests in Demeter-Kore relation, and the meaning of their myth. Demeter means a Mother of Daa, and Kore means simply "daughter". Persephone is an another name of the Kore, who is a queen of Hades, and was kidnapped by Hades, the male God of the Underground. Japanese have no Christian suppression. As I know it, Japanese culture has allowed both Paiderasitiaa and Amor Lesbiscus. Or saying, in the history of Japanese cultures, there has not been strong, social forbiddenness against paiderastiaa kai amor lesbiscus, I think. I have not enough ability to read your long, many documents totally, At present, I have only read a little of them. In the physical category, I may be a male, but I have confusion in my sexual identity. I wish I am a young, beautiful girl (female), but at the same time, I wish I am a male. I wish the Reconciliation of the human beings, through the Great Goddesses, Magnae Matres. But I am a member of another culture than yours. Though I call myself Esther or Marie, I am still in the not-Euro-American culture. I have more interest in Demeter-Kore relation than Attis-Cybele-relation. Attis and Cybele relation is Magnae Mater and puer aeternus relation.(This is the relation of St. Maria and Khristos.) And Demeter-Kore relation is Mater kai puella aeterna relation. And I want to have friends of adelphai(sisters), and I want to join in your "Sapphire Circle". If you want to send a pesonal mail to me, please use an address: "YHY11113@nifty.ne.jp". Of course, I have other addresses on net. YHY11113 is but only receiving address. Sorry, I have not enough knowledge to send a mail on internet. Hoping. And thank you. (Esther alias Marie).

Dear Esther, we would love to have you join us on The Sapphire Circle. We have sent you a reply to your receiving address, but we need to have a reply from you and you will need to give us an E-mail address that we can use! Send it to me, Laura, at gallae@azstarnet.com as soon as you find out how to do so! We are all looking forward to your being with us!

message: "We are not merely male, not merely female, we are (O)ther. We are gallae!"

YOU may be. That is not an Identification with which I share. Please be careful when you Name things -- for in Naming is the giving of Power and Form, as you should well know.

I am a transsexual. I am completing the process of gender transition, with the end of the medical part of the process being SRS. I am not an "altered male", a femaling male, or any of these other words. Nor am I a "trapped woman". I recognize and affirm my bigendered nature, even though I strive for a femme ideal and choose to live that way 24/7.

I am NOT a "two spirit", shaman/person, or any similar being; this is not the path that I choose to walk (or was chosen for me). I think that it is terribly unfortunate that so many practitioners of pagan faiths assume that their experience of "dual natures" is the same as mine or that this is my status because they read "Blossom of Bone" or "Zuni Man/Woman".

My "gender variance" is NOT a "gender blend". I am getting very tired of being told that this is the "wholistic" version of newage gender transgression. I also have a Public Face and a Private Face and it is not the Crass Deception of a Pseudofemale to choose which facets are in public purview. The facet that my co workers see is different than the one that my lesbian friends of choice see and the one that my wiccan comrades see, or that my lovers see.

This is NOT an aspect of self-deception, buying into the gender binarism, or lacking in the sort of "enlightenment" you espouse.

Finally, I would warn you against singling out transsexuals for apparent derision; much of your language mirrors Janice Raymond and other Gender Defenders that sees "our" Otherness as a pitiful, blanket affliction. You are coming very close to crossing the line of re-ifying the Hierarchy you claim to dislike: replacing post-op F2Ms who pass at the top and transvestic fetishits at the bottom with one that replaces it with bigendered/transgendered "enlightened ones" at the top and medicalized TS's at the bottom serves no one in any way. And, speaking in the I, I feel NO qualifications in describing the life experience of any female to male TS or TG, with regard to any of their self-concepts or beliefs.

Bright Blessings, Rhiannon C.

Thank you for a wonderful rant ... well said! We welcome diversity and all people no matter what self-definition they hold to be true! We present our opinions and thoughts for others, such as yourself, to read and consider. If they, in your mind and heart, are not applicable to you, then they were not meant for you. I don't know what to make of your warning ... what is it you threaten, that we will be thought mean, wicked, or cruel ... that is not the impression any other visitor has expressed. Perhaps you need to examine your own mind and heart and reflect on why you express yourself in such an angry tone against a web site designed to help others find their way in a hostile world!

Both Julia and I are transsexual, a healthy biological condition ... but we are not transsexuals, in that transsexuality is only one small part of what and who we are. We have a wonderful life, happy, fulfilled, and offer much consolation for others like ourselves. We regret any discomfort our words may have caused you, but must affirm our right to present our opinions. I think you have only read one or two pieces, and superficially, to think that this site, which extols gender diversity in all forms as wholesome, is an attack on gender diversity ... because, wether you understand it or not, by definition, you are a gender diverse person!
