My Family, With One Still to Come

My Family:
Transitional stages ... this is one of Mary's favorite pictures. At this time I was still exploring my feelings, trying to determine what I needed, what I expected of myself, and how to make it all fit inside my own personal code of ethics. When I think back to this period in my life I realize that I had not yet come to the conclusion that I'd be happier living full time as a woman. And yet, I knew my motivations were stronger than those of a transvestite.I was working for the City of Phoenix Management Information System (M.I.S.) as a computer specialist (troubleshooter). Being good at something doesn't necessarily make it a pleasant occupation. Computers, in business, are impersonal devices that, when all is said and done, do very little to improve the human condition. I would have preferred working as a nurse, but my thoughts had not yet formulated into a plan to become one. However, I did get to take care of the house, make the meals, wash dishes, and spend quality time with the kids. I was also slipping out of the house in the late hours of the night as a woman. It was a full schedule.
At home, Mary handled the finances and, at first, did laundry. It was the two household chores she actually seemed to enjoy. I, of course, helped with the laundry. I drove her to the laundromat, loaded the washers as she instructed, and then helped her fold when the clothes were dry. Because of my greater speed, after a short time passed, she let me take it over.
Doing the housework ingratiated me, as a woman, to Mary. I only did the chores while presenting as a woman. Mary, never a high energy person, rarely had the energy to do household chores even when she wasn't employed outside the home. It gave me the perfect excuse to live as a woman (except for work), allowing Mary to become used to my presence in a most favorable atmosphere. Then, since I was working outside the home, doing the household chores, and taking care of the kids, I was beginning to wonder what I needed her for.Which was when Mary started working outside the home. She picked up a job as an assembly worker at Motorola and from that moment on, all household duties, except for taking care of the finances, became my responsibility. I loved it!
