Other Spiritual Expressions
In questing for control over the minds of believers, clergy, particularly Christian clergy, has warped sexuality almost beyond recognition, subverting it to a tool of domination. Less than 2,000 years ago, sex was not considered wicked, but was celebrated as the greatest of gifts from the deities , the very stuff of the Divine Essence. How much healthier and joyful a perspective this, than the dark, negative, and brooding conception spread by the organized religions of today?
The images you are about to view are to be found in every culture, in every land, in almost infinite diversity. Countless statues and paintings, too many to have been entirely destroyed and censored (although a massive attempt was made), prove that sexuality, for our ancestors, was not a dirty little something hidden from sight, but an integral part of their culture. Here then is a hint of the artistic expression from those bygone days.
