Nothing but a busy signal greets us whenever we try to access the web. I am really not pleased with our ISP. I was able to move a few pictures over to this computer via sheer trickery. I made a new back up disk on the CD burners and then got the photos off of that. December 6, 2003
"At Battle's End"
12:02pm
To think that I might be manifesting some magical efforts to getting more money and better computers is tempting, indeed. If we dump the expensive (and woefully inadequate) ISP, we could save quite a bit of money. Money saved is money manifested.
We're researching it. By the time I send this up, we could be flying on a different carrier.
Meanwhile, I struggle with a sinus headache. Last night, feeling its beginning tendrils, I thought it a good idea to 'party' then. So we went to Outback steakhouse. I have some leftover 'cyclone' chicken awaiting me when I decide to heat it up.
Julia loves the margaritas they serve. A couple of tastes affirm for me their subtlety of flavor. I especially like the way the limes are skewered by small swords and was inspired to a bit of mock fight with Julia:
Julia of the meek and mild spirit did not fair well. I named my sword Excalibur and her sword ExExcalibur at battle's end!
Happy and laughter evoking the result, I like to commemmorate it here.
This morning, after our business at the Post Office, we walked to the sidewalk and watched a parade going by. Hundreds of Shriners went by us, in fancy cars, tiny toy cars and on horse. Their jewel encrusted maroon hats amuse me, with the curved scimitar swords. I would feel quite the wizard in one of them.
Although hats are not necessary to the process of wizardry, nor long fancy titles, they can offer what ever amusement and facility they might. 'Queen Illuminaria' does quite nicely. Any other pedigrees might amuse, as well.
Julia is now engaged in acquiring a new ISP. In two hours, we can try with our new name and number. There's an introductory offer of $10.97 for the first six months and then it goes to $21.95. So $21.95 as opposed to $39.90 will save us a great deal of money over time. We'd had two accounts, but since quitting Everquest, rarely have been online at the same time. This has been money quite gone to dust. So onward and upward the 'xeper' of the new monetary manisfestation!
It will be good to be done battling the old unpredictable ISP, as well. Onward and upward for all of us, and soon I'll be done battling the sinus stuffiness. I'm just all kinds of optimistic this afternoon.
Oh, just to re-assure you, had you any doubts, this will not affect our website access, as it is securely at our independent website host.
The Sunday morning news show featured a story about a Rembrandt exhibit in Boston. Particularily fascinating were the artist's self portraits. As a young man, he drew himself as very princely. As an older man, he drew every wrinkle and soft skin drooping, sparing nothing of these details. Still, the older artist looks out at the viewer with a nobility of bearing, no less dimmed for the realism of age. December 7, 2003
"Self Portrait With Sinus Headache"
10:22am

This inspired me to sit before a mirror and attempt a sketch. This morning, I am not at my best. A sinus headache causes me to tense the muscles around my eyes. Still, I, like Rembrandt, wanted to capture the reality of the moment.
Well, they're not all tenors. A couple of these men had deep voices. I was inspired by their expressive faces to sketch what I might of them while they sang on a PBS special. Going to the channel's website to learn their names, bass René Pape is at left, Russian tenor Daniil Shtoda at middle and Georgian baritone Lado Ataneli at right, if I've sorted them correctly. "Julia's Mother Dead"
I can't of any other way to begin this, but bluntly. Julia received in the early evening a call from her brother informing us her Mother, who had been ailing with lung cancer, was at the edge. |
Forward...We'd originally planned to see The Last Samurai after lunch today. But after those tasty meatball sandwiches at Villa On The Main, and a few swallows of a tasty wine, I didn't feel up to that. I had a spontaneous urge to get the camera and head out to the Yuma Conservation Gardens. Both of us were in need of tranquility. December 14, 2003 A
"Seeking Serenity"
12:05am
After too much 'web-dueling' (just read on from that entry if interested) , I wasn't really in the mood to watch samurais duel.
And Julia certainly needed serenity. We found it, and I got a few good pictures, as well.
