"It's Been Six Months"

I scribbled down a few random thoughts from 'down under' at different times of the day. They might only make sense to me.

how hard is it,
the realizing of catagories,
no sense this, no sense that?
Where falls the delineation?
Time comes and answers.

~ ~~ ~~~ ~~ ~
Settling in now,
the infrequent gaze,
deep and healing,
vision into the depth of beyond -
it is here now.

~ ~~ ~~~ ~~ ~
Melting now into the faithful
meeting with time -
touch points at a
never ending junction,
star points in the stream.
Where the stream goes?
In this moment,
we are the stream.

Yeah, I know, weird, weird, weird. I kind of like the last one, though.

~ ~~ ~~~ ~~ ~
It's been six months since I began this free for all hodge podge of what not called Weighty Matters. Not worth calling it an anniversary, but still an interesting observation.

You're probably wondering what I thought of Phantom Menace. I liked it. Some people didn't like Jar Jar Binks, but I thought he was cute. Without the humor he gave to the show, it would have been awfully dry. I liked those huge long floppy ears and his funny way of walk. It's amazing the technology that made him look so real. Everyone in unison has marvelled over the special effects, however. In short, if you haven't seen it, GO SEE IT!!

A new site discovery! Go to Vanderven's photo gallery and do some world travel! MORE web surfing to take up too much of my time! This one's worth a look-see though!

"It's HOT!"

Soul searing heat, I tell you!

Karen said of the weather where she's at, (Michigan!)"this must be what Evil likes to breathe" Over there in Michigan, that is only a lesser hell. That's what Evil likes to breathe for fresh air. No, the Evil indwelling Inferno is here in Arizona. The Sonoran desert in particular.

When we went to bed, it was quite chilly even in the bedroom. But as the night wore on and the effects of the AC wore off, it became stifling hot. I tossed and turned, back and forth. Through my dreams, I could feel even Julia tossing and turning. I don't think any of us got good sleep. By 7:00am, it had only cooled down to 85 degrees (30C), according to our porch thermometer. We'd been turning the AC off at night. This works well for early summer. Not any more! Damn the expensive cooling bills, it's full speed ahead and refrigeration on constantly now. What was it I was supposed to remember in the midst of this torrid heat? Oh yes, snow inundated cars in some northern tundra. Yes. Snow. I've nearly forgotten what it's like. Numb feet while waiting for buses. Oh, twenty eight years of that is still somewhere in the hazy memory banks.

But meanwhile I'm contemplating a possible 108 (42C) degree high, and 111 (44C) by Thursday. Don't let anyone tell you differently, it gets positively TORRID in the desert.

"It's Something"

Last night we watched "Dancing at Lughnasad". I'm pretty sure I'm not spelling it right. My net search failed and only produced a few pagan sites whose authors also can't spell. It's told from the point of view of an Irish man reliving a special summer he had when he was a boy. His father was in town and his mother and his aunts were merry. His favorite memory is when Maggie, the one aunt who liked to have fun, turned the radio on, and started dancing. Soon, all five aunts were dancing, including the prudish one who was nearly always stern. I liked it for it seemed a true slice of life film. But it had a sad ending. And that sort of ruined it.

Afterwards, Laura and Shayna, perhaps to escape the mood, lit a candle and set it next to the large crystal ball we have. They stretched out on the floor, intently staring at it. Although I'm not good at seeing anything special in them, I liked the way the candle flame became two dancing sprites due to the reflection in the ball. The gentle light it generated radiated slowly outwards until there was only darkness. The luminated ball made me think of the 'round and clear' space within, but last night, my inner gaze turned up only odd distortions. So I went to bed.

One promising thing! I'm drawing again. A cute little tree frog on one of those freebie calenders environmental groups send me begged to have me see what I could do with him. No, not the hand holding the apple that I promised for the poetry pages, but it's something!

"At Least I Don't Look Like a Criminal"

Ever since Laura's son Anton joined Sam's Club instead of CostCo, we were curious about what they were like. A sales lady called yesterday with info on business memberships, having gotten the business phone number, and the price sounded good, so we checked it out. Overall, the stock is at least as good as CostCo, and everything seems a little cheaper.

After signing on and getting the photo id cards, we of course, did some credit damage. There's some bing cherries to tempt me later, as well as a huge tub of vanilla bean ice cream and large tubs of rice pudding. Yum, yum, yum.

Mug shot!

Yike, I look dreadfully snooty! But at least I don't look like a criminal.

Monday, the cat population got smaller by one. We thought 'Gypsy', the latest addition, was a cat that used to belong to Glen and Mother. But when they got a good look at it in broad daylight, it was not pure white, as Gypsy was. It also hadn't been fixed. Two whole toms are in the brood. Laura gently suggested to Shayna we either stretch outselves and get the kitty fixed or take her to the humane society. Shayna bravely did the smart thing and gave her up. She could have been already pregnant, for all we know.

We've been having our share of computer problems. I finally got around to finding a repair place for the black laser jet printer that quit working several months ago. The man thought a simple cleaning would fix it. Alas, not, for some of its gears had been stripped. The complicated procedure would have cost $125 bucks! A new one can be had for under $200! Augh! We'll make do with the two we've got. However we're having an awful time with the Compaq color printer. The black cartridges empty out too quickly and no one carries them. One more knowledgeable salesman said the company that makes them is Lexmark, and they are having difficulties. On the salesman's advice, we tried to jury rig a Lexmark cartridge in it, but it didn't work. So we're down to the ancient pin printer. Laura put it on her computer, which took some porting of corresponding set-up files from its original host, as it's so old.

But it's reliable! Fancy is worthless if it doesn't work.

"Busy!"

red eyed tree frog!

Besides all the laundry and sewing, I got my froggy done! I also took a neat photo which will likely be the beginning of Part Twenty Nine of a TTWT.

"Three Year Anniversary!"

I didn't have much time to write yesterday, so I just slapped those URLs up last night. This morning, I also added the new pic to the Photo Gallery. For the border, I chose a color that may not be visible to all readers. Since we updated to the latest Internet Explorer, an unusual fix must have been included, for now both Netscape and IE can utilize more than just the 216 browser safe colors. For those who haven't updated, the border will just look black, and to those who have, it will be a very dark gray. I used this option in the borders of the last poem that went in ATTWT. I wanted a slightly more greenish tinge to them, so instead of, for instance, the basic TEAL "336666" visable by all browsers, I used "337766". The non-updated browser just translates it as "336666", so it won't look too awful in that milieu.

I found the discovery fascinating, and perhaps it could interest another. Sorry if you found it a bit boring.

It's been three full years since we moved to Casa Grande, the town I'm gradually making my peace with. I don't sound very excited, do I? There are no perfect places, really. Well, Tucson comes close, and this here burg north of Tucson is not far behind. A lot has happened to us here that wouldn't have, if we'd have gone elsewhere. Maybe some of it we would have missed.

"What It Takes to Keep Cool in the Desert"

Laura next to AC unit
Not even this huge thing can cool us some days!

Air conditioning units are supposed to be placed on the north side of the house or in a shady area near a tree. We had no choice, and the eight feet long industrial strength unit would only fit on the east side. Every morning the sun bore down on it with an intensity that would make the metal surface impossible to touch. We knew this wasn't good for the inner workings. So yesterday Laura and I constructed the shade awning you see over it in the above picture. She hammered and nailed and I sewed. First I divided the 6foot by 25foot piece of shade screen in half and stitched the two halfs together on the sewing machine. I folded the one raw end under and stitched. That would be the side stapled next to the house. I connected the screening to the chain link fence by using metal wire twist ties that come with the trash bags we get. Knotting them would work, for the wire could withstand the constant heat of the sun.

We do think it's making the unit's efforts more effective. It seemer cooler in the living room yesterday afternoon. Being it was a standard blistering day of 111 degrees (44C) even at 4:30pm, this must mean improvement.

~ ~~ ~~~ ~~ ~

I did find some time to visit with the Muse yesterday. The results are over at ATTWT. Laura was curious about what I'd written. I warned her, "You probably won't like them!" Her reaction was better than what I suspected. She only took exception with my use of the word 'priest'. I assured her it's not referring to any specific priest, only in a general way to 'a student (and teacher) of spiritual matters. She just then said, "They're kind of depressing." I don't find them so. The hopeful part is the line The strong heart guides you. That is the message I needed to receive.

"Trying to Eat Healthier"

I broke my tradition of the ice cream breakfast or chocolate covered almond breakfast and had instead a large serving of mixed vegetables, chicken breast with mild salsa, and a glass of cranberry juice

I can feel the vitamins in what I ate surging through my system. I'm trying to eat healthier. My water consumption is up and the soda (pop) consumption is down. I'm trying to eat more fruit. This morning I EVEn ate vegetables. I know I'll feel better for it, instead of a nearly all carbohydrate diet. Now I could never go on a low carbohydrate diet. I think my system NEEDS lots of breads, potatoes and rice, etc. But it also needs fruit and vegetables as well. Which I've not been giving it.

Moving from the mundane dog eat dog, human eat hotdog world to the ethereal, this quote jumped out at me this morning:

At the outset of every work of art there is the will to isolate a moment out of the merciless flow of life and make it accessible to others.

----Joseph Conrad

I really 'grok' (understand) the meaning of that quote. I have that desire. Sometimes I succeed better than others.

After some tiring labor and a good nap, I felt called to have some quiet time with pen and paper. My Moment of Pause is at ATTWT.
