"Remembering - Treasured Photos "
12:04pm

For a autobiographical project I am working on, I was looking for my University Graduation picture. I did not find it, but I found a couple of photos worth scanning. I found a picture taken the same time as my Junior High graduation. I am surprised to find a rather refined and gracious looking me looking at the camera:

1972 - This was a dress I'd made myself

This was taken with my Dad's polaroid camera, and there were many nicks in the photo I had to fix. Another photo treasure was created back in 1993 when I went home to Joliet for my Dad's funeral. My Uncle caught my Mother and I with his camera:

1993 - This was a blouse I'd made myself

It's been eleven years since I've seen my Mother. I hope to do something about that someday. If not this summer, then perhaps next summer I will see her. I love that Indian print blouse and hope to someday be able to fit into it again! Hopes of someday 'future', mixed with remembrances of some days past, that is my morning thoughts have been.

"Julia's Tea Order"
11:41pm

I'm not sure why I think this will be of interest to me later on, I just do. And so I record for posterity Julia's tea order:

Hello!

I'd like to order one pound each, of the following:

#390 Silver Needle Pekoe Supreme US$ 47.-
#527 Organic Yun Nan Black US$ 27.-
#380 Organic Ming Mei Tea US$ 18.-
#520 Organic Keemun Black US$ 17.75 -
===========================================
TOTAL: US$109.75

Yes, that's a LOT of tea, but it lasts a good long while. I especially like the Keemun Black varieties.

"Abstract Aesthetics"
6:08am

The title comes from today's horoscope, which informs me Neptune is quincunx the Sun. Aesthetics have indeed, been on my mind recently.

I haven't made an entry in this journal in a while, but that's not because I haven't been writing. I'm working on an autobiographical project. Doing this, I've been finding my old journal entries most rewarding for this intense look at my past life.

However, while reading them, I discovered an old image was corrupted. Looking at an old back up disk, I found the image corrupted there as well. No problem, back in March 2000 I was illustrating the ability of the Picture Publisher to do a screen capture. So I just used the current Weighty Matters index page for this. However, the new image was clearly on a browser version not available in 2000.

I just made a note of it, and put the image there. Then on the old Windows 98 computer, I found an uncorrupted version of the older view. The two screen captures are interesting side by side:

Windows 98, with Netscape vs Windows XP with Explorer

The design had been created for the 800x600 monitor. It looks a bit less attractive, not intolerably so, on the monitor with more pixels.

Anyway, I find the two views interesting side by side.

Not too far off the subject of visual perspective, Julia reported an odd sighting this morning. Not wearing her glasses, she isn't entirely sure if she saw what she saw. But she thinks she saw a lizard skitter across the living room floor to hide under our sofa. Perhaps there is much nourishment there in those hidden depths for a small critter!

While our imperfectly clean house may feed small critters, crickets most certainly, if Julia DID see a lizard, it rather fits with the spontaneous drawing I made last night:

Energy Flux

Okay the identity in the middle is a symbolic creature, yes abstract. He could be lizard. He could be snake. As snake, he could also have Setian elements, for Set has been associated with snakes. This image, plucked from the 'subconscious' regions of my brain, hopefully is evocative of an energy flow.

In art, both the making of it and the viewing of it are subjective experiences. Which means what a piece does for one viewer, it may not do for another viewer. Your mileage may vary. Etc. Etc. With that said, I'm pleased of the image.
