"Holding the Moment"

Today began with a delicious breakfast: 1/2 cantaloupe, then flat egg noodles heated with butter, and veggies added to them, (broccoli bits, green beans, carrot strings, etc) along with 1/2 of an avocado. YUM! Later, I had three of the dark chocolate "Le Petit Écolier" cookies. The relief of the little schoolboy molded out of the chocolate was all melted and the three cookies were 'glued' together. It is the great heat that did it. Even though we'd done our grocery shopping around 9 o'clock in the evening, and it was a short trip, that much exposure was still enough to melt the cookies. Never the less, the cookies were still tasty.

French cookies to accompany the reading of a French author, (I was reading along in the Benoist book), and before I started in on chapter 13, "Space and Time", I took a picture break:

I am not certain if my studies figured into the picture in any way.

Taking time for a different sort of picture break, I had the idea to juxtapose my head with the computer screen:

"A Sense of Mystery"

Kwan Yin from Julia's altar...

I like the sense of mystery this picture captures. Kwan Yin isn't from my usual pantheon. If I were to pick from the pantheon to which she does belong Shiva would be my favorite. Meanwhile, the sense of mystery, it is as though She is quietly waiting in the shadows for you to discover her.

"Keeping Up With the Times"

While wandering the web, I saw a sight that looked most odd to me, Anubis in a ROMAN TOGA! I told Julia about this, how weird it looked, and she said, we might as well have him in a three piece business suit. I suppose she is right. The Egyptians depicted their deities in the garb of Egyptians. When Egypt began having more Greco-Roman influence, the fashions changed. Anubis then wore the togas of the day.

So I got an idea. I took my statue of Thoth, kept him with the same pose and the offering bowl, but put him in modern garb:

"Self Portrait I"

Wally Torta has issued the challenge: a series of self portraits, each to build upon the last one:

I propped up several thick books against the computer monitor so I could put a mirror there and sit while I sketch. This way I get more details then a quick sketch while standing. I didn't know my left eyebrow is higher than my right eyebrow.
